Swimmers Roll Past South Dakota State

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Iowa State’s swimming and diving team completed a South Dakota sweep Saturday, winning the first four events of the meet and 12 of 16 to knock off South Dakota State 174-120.

“I was very pleased with the way we competed today,” Iowa State head coach Duane Sorenson said. “This was our second weekend in a row with two competitions and the team has continued to do a good job racing.”

Nan Liu collected three wins on the day, leading off for the winning 200 medley relay team, earning a win in the 100 backstroke and finishing it off by touching the wall first in the 100 butterfly.

“Nan is a very smart swimmer and swam two intelligent races today,” Sorenson said.

Abby Glaser was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay team and earned the win in the 50 freestyle. Lindsey Behrens also had two victories, taking the 100 and 200 freestyle. Hannah McCulley, Megan Thompson, Chelsea Tomek and Jenny Vondenkamp all collected individual victories as well.

“Behrens is swimming really nicely for this time of season,” Sorenson said. “She has done a good job from coming back after being ill."

On the diving boards, Tien Tran picked up win number five of the season on 1-meter. Tran didn’t wait long to get her sixth win, earning it on 3-meter with a score of 300.00.

“I was happy with how Tien dove today,” diving coach Jeff Warrick said. “She was consistent outside of one bad takeoff but did not allow that to effect her finish.”

Lauren Naeve finished third on 1-meter in her first meet of the season.

“It was good to have Lauren back,” Warrick said. “She did a good job, especially after not having much practice time this week.”

The Iowa State swimmers will be back in action in three weeks when it travels to the Northwestern Invitational from Nov. 20-22. The Cyclone divers will have to wait over a month to get back into action when they dive at the Missouri Invitational on Dec. 4-6.
