Rachel Hockaday Blogs From FCAV
Cyclone senior outside hitter Rachel Hockaday is headed to Huntington Beach, Calif. this summer to work with Fellowship of Christian Athletes Volleyball. Throughout the summer, Hockaday will blog about her time with FCAV, giving Iowa State fans an inside look at one student-athlete's summer plans.
I'm especially excited for my final summer as a Cyclone volleyball player to begin. On May 20th, I will be heading out to Huntington Beach, Calif. for an experience of a lifetime. I will be interning for Fellowship of Christian Athletes Volleyball alongside five other Division I volleyball players from across the country.
When I was deciding whether or not to take the internship, I thought. "What better time than now?" This was such a great opportunity, I couldn't pass it up. It's the summer before my final season and before I have to start my career. I didn't think I would get a chance like this when I was done with college so, after much consideration and a lot of prayer, I decided to do it.
What I'm probably most excited about this summer is being able to share my passion for volleyball and Jesus with those around me. FCAV will run various camps and clinics throughout the summer that I will get to be a part of. Having the opportunity to coach young girls in the sport I love and share my faith with them is something I'm very passionate about. As part of the internship, we will be training hard in the weight room, on the court and in the sand. I'm looking forward to putting in time to learn and get better for next season.
It will be hard leaving all my teammates for the summer. We have a great group of girls, and I know they are going to be working extremely hard in preparation for next fall. However, God has placed it on my heart to be in California this summer, and I can't wait to see what He has in store.
I'm excited for the journey ahead, and happy that I can share it with you all!
