Blythe, Bowen, Rubin to East-West Game
AMES, Iowa – Three all-Big 12 Conference football players at Iowa State will play in the East-West Shrine Bowl Jan. 19 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. Linebacker Alvin “Ace” Bowen, defensive lineman Athyba “Tuba” Rubin and wide receiver Todd Blythe are slated to play in the game for the West team. The contest kicks off at 6 p.m. CST and will be telecast nationally by ESPN.
Bowen earned all-Big 12 honors in 2006 and 2007. He led the nation with 12.92 tackles per game as a junior and finished his Iowa State career with 287 tackles. Rubin shined as a senior, with 42 tackles at nose guard. The Cyclones improved from 89th nationally against the run in 2006 to 44th nationally last season.
Blythe is Iowa State’s all-time leading receiver. A former first-team all-Big 12 choice from Indianola, Blythe finished his Iowa State career with 176 catches for 3,096 yards and 31 touchdowns. He averaged an amazing 17.6 yards per catch in his career.
