AMES, Iowa-The Iowa State University Athletics Department announces Mike and Karon Lacey of Elkhart, Iowa, are the recipients of the 2008 Cy’s Favorite Alum award. Since 1955, the athletics department annually recognizes the loyalty and accomplishments of a graduate or contributor.  Past winners include Rod and Connie French of Des Moines, Jack and Dilla Cosgrove of Cedar Rapids, and Erb and Marge Hunziker of Ames.

Mike and Karon will receive the award from ISU Athletics Director Jamie Pollard and university mascot, Cy, at this weekend's Iowa State-Texas A&M football game.

The Laceys are long-time season ticket holders for football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball and are members of the Cyclone Club, the annual-giving program for ISU Athletics.  Mike has served as the president of the Cyclone Gridiron Club since 2003 and has been a past president of the Greater Des Moines Cyclone Club. The Laceys are lifetime members of the ISU Alumni Association.

Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree from ISU, an MBA from Golden Gate University and a law degree from Drake University. Mike joined Des Moines’ Patterson Law Firm in 1976 where he now serves as a partner. Karon received a Bachelor of Science in child development from ISU. She taught special education in Sacramento, Calif., and Des Moines.

Mike and Karon are involved with the Kiwanis Clubs in Des Moines and Ankeny. Mike also participates in numerous other philanthropic organizations in central Iowa, as well as many law associations.

The Laceys are the parents of Dana Kaye and (Kirk) McGowan of Urbandale and Michael and (Erin) Lacey III of Altoona and the grandparents of Braden and Bryson McGowan and Colin and Madelyn Lacey.
