Donor Profile: The Bauers
AMES, Iowa - Vaughn and Lori Bauer had a hand in building one of the most successful companies in Western Iowa from the ground up and over the years found ways to give back to the school they love. BB Manufacturing was started in 1979, and now over 30 years later, the Iowa State Athletics Department has benefited immensely from the Bauers' generosity.
The Paton, Iowa company began manufacturing different types of farming equipment and eventually invented a unique design of planter bars for farmers. Since 1989, the family has manufactured the Bauer Planter Frame. Their planter frame production formed a partnership with the John Deere Company in 2002 to include their product in John Deere dealerships worldwide.
Though the Bauers, who have four children - Angela, Alison, Andrea and Adam - aren't Iowa State graduates, they have always supported the Cardinal and Gold.
"We have always been Cyclone fans," Lori Bauer said. "When our kids graduated from high school it allowed us to attend ISU events more frequently. Our oldest daughter, Angela, graduated from Iowa State. Another daughter of ours, Ali, went to UNI and was a student athletic trainer for men's basketball for Coach McDermott. We were always fans of Iowa State, but when Coach McDermott came to Iowa State, we really started supporting the teams."
Long-time members of the Cyclone Club and season ticket-holders in football, men's basketball and women's basketball, the Bauers understand the importance of facilities in competing in the Big 12 Conference. This past year, the Bauers donated a leadership gift in support of the Iowa State Football Training Center, which is under construction and scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2012.
Facilities are the backbone of a strong athletics department, and the Bauers are fully aware of this.
"We enjoy going to games and we know how much Iowa State needs support," Bauer added. "Facilities are very important and Vaughn and I firmly believe in this. That is why we are donating."
The Bauers give back to Iowa State in other facets as well. They are also members of the Clyde Williams Society, the Cyclone Gridiron Club, ISU Alumni Association and the Order of the Knoll. This past summer, the Bauers hosted a brief stop on the Cyclone Tailgate Tour, as members of the Cyclone traveling caravan took time to meet with workers at BB Manufacturing.
"Lori and Vaughn Bauer have become great friends of the Cyclone athletics program," Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard said. "They are fun people to spend time with and their business is a true Iowa success story. We are honored and humbled by their overwhelming generosity and continued support of all of our athletic teams, including their recent significant gift in support of the new football complex."
