Fernandez Tied For 24th At NCAA Regional

COLUMBUS, Ohio –Iowa State sophomore Scott Fernandez fired first-round 74 at the NCAA Columbus Regional this afternoon at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

Fernandez started strong, going 2-under through the first four holes with birdies on No. 2 and No. 3. The Granada, Spain native then made a bogey holes five and nine and was 3-over on the back nine.

Fernandez is currently tied for 24th place. The Cyclone star must be the top finisher among all players not among the top-five teams to advance to the NCAA Championship.

Charlotte is in first place after carding a 287 in the first round of action, led by first-round leader Raoul Menard, who fired a 4-under 67 this afternoon.

Fernandez returns to the links tomorrow, Friday, for the second round of competition at the Scarlet Course.
