Iowa State Finishes Play at ITA Regionals
NORMAN, Okla.- Iowa State tennis players Samantha Budai and Ksenia Pronina finished play for the Cyclones at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship.
Both Cyclones came back to play today after pairing up for a quick doubles win over Nebraska’s Maike Zeppernick and Izabella Zgierska. The duo was eliminated after second round loss to the Tulsa pair of Rongrong Leenabanchong and Maria Sant’Anna.
Singles play was highlighted today with a win from the freshman, Budai. The London, Ontario native defeated Wichita State’s Summer Schlotterback, 6-1, 6-4.
Pronina came into the tournament with an impressive 6-1 record for the fall season, but suffered a loss to Oklahoma’s Whitney Ritchie, 6-1, 6-2, in her first match of the day. The junior from Duesseldorf, Germany was then eliminated after a second loss of the day to Tulsa’s Renata Kuricova, 6-0, 6-4.
Iowa State tennis will return in two weeks to finish up the fall campaign. The Cyclones will play at the Cougar Classic in Houston November 1-3.
