John Van Sicklen, a native of Walled Lake, Mich., was one of the greatest offensive linemen in school history, earning All-America and First-Team All-Big Eight Conference accolades in 1964. A multiple-year, two-way starter on offense and defense, Van Sicklen helped All-American and future NFL running back Tom Vaughn achieve unprecedented success with the Cyclones. After Van Sicklen’s All-America season in 1964, he was invited to play in the Blue-Gray Game and Senior Bowl. Van Sicklen was voted one of the top-35 players in Iowa State's 75-year football history in a 1968 poll of former Cyclones and coaches.
