Marketing Unit Named Marketing Team of the Year

AMES, Iowa - Fan support and interest in Iowa State athletics was at an all-time high in 2011-12. Success on the competitive fields was a key part of this, but you can also give an assist to the Iowa State marketing team.

The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) honored Iowa State's marketing unit with its 2011-12 Marketing Team of the Year Award (MTOYA). The Cyclone contingent received the award yesterday at the 21st annual NACMA convention in Dallas, Texas.

At the beginning of the 2011-12 school year, Iowa State initiated its "We Are One" campaign with a total operating budget of $317,000 to promote football, men's basketball and women's basketball. Those three sports generated over $13.5 million for the athletics department.

The department generated interest through fan experience, innovation and social media. Iowa State's season goal of selling 31,000 season tickets was attained by more than 6,200 tickets. An increase of 1,100 men's basketball public season tickets was sold last year and the women's basketball program achieved a 10-year high that included an increase of nearly 800 student season tickets.

"We feel honored to win given that there is a lot of amazing work being done by other collegiate athletics marketing departments," said Mary Pink, Associate Athletics Director for Marketing at Iowa State. "This award just reaffirms how closely and cohesively our staff works together to help make the Iowa State Athletics Department the best it can be."
