Ejim and Gibson Named Academic All-Big 12
IRVING, Texas - Two members of the Iowa State men's basketball team were named to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 team, the conference office announced today.
Melvin Ejim, who earned Academic All-Big 12 First-Team accolades for the second consecutive season, and Percy Gibson were both first team honorees.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00-3.19 GPA. Student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests to qualify.
Ejim, an Academic All-District VI pick, is the Big 12 leader in rebounding (9.7) and double-doubles (10). The junior from Toronto, Ontario is averaging 10.7 points and leads all Big 12 players with 15 double-digit rebounding performances.
Gibson, a native of Detroit, Mich., is averaging 5.4 points and 3.3 rebounds. He leads the team in blocks with 17.
