SAAC Sponsors CyCans Food Drive This Weekend
AMES, Iowa—Iowa State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be hosting its CyCans food drive on Saturday for the Homecoming football game vs. TCU. ISU-TCU will kickoff at 11 a.m., in Jack Trice Stadium. SAAC has partnered with the Food Bank of Iowa to collect 10,000 pounds of canned food.
“The Ames community and Central Iowa are very supportive of ISU student-athletes and they recognize that, so they love to give back with any opportunity they’re given,” said Molly Parrott, Coordinator of Student-Athlete Affairs.
Non-perishable food will be donated to the Food Bank of Iowa to give back to Iowa families in need. Together, the donations will serve 55 counties in Iowa.
The student-athletes will roll through the cement tailgating lots two hours before kickoff with shopping carts with the CyCans logo. Collection carts will also be located at all Jack Trice Stadium entrances.
As part of the CyCans food drive, student-athletes will be collecting non-perishable food and cash donations will also be accepted. For every one dollar donation, the Food Bank of Iowa can provide 4.5 meals for Iowans.
Most needed items include:
● Canned chicken
● Peanut butter
● 100 percent fruit juice
● Canned fruits and vegetables.
Fans can also drop off food donations at the Jacobson Building atrium from Nov. 6-13 during the hours from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Student-Athletic Advisory Committee’s purpose is to create communication between student-athletes and athletic administration, foster student-athlete leadership and involvement in the community and promote student-athlete academic and personal success.
