Cyclones Defeat WVU Behind Santerre's Record Night

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State gymnastics team (2-4 overall, 1-1 Big 12) had a memorable night in Hilton Coliseum as they posted a season-best score and saw senior Camille Santerre-Gervais carve her place in the school record books. The Cyclones defeated Big 12 foe West Virginia, 196.025-194.175 and Santerre now holds a school record after scoring a 9.950 on bars.

This is the first time Iowa State has scored over a 196.000 in the regular season since the 2011 season. Junior Caitlin Brown also re-upped her career-best mark in the all-around on Friday night, as the Apple Valley, Minn. native posted a 39.275.

Uneven Parallel Bars
The second rotation of the night was something special for the Cyclones. Santerre provided fans with their highlight of the season so far on uneven bars. Santerre tied a school record with a 9.95 in a spectacular routine that brought the Hilton Coliseum crowd to its feet. Only four other gymnasts in school history have gone 9.95 on bars. Megan McDonald also scored a personal season-high with a 9.825. The Cyclones posted a season-high 49.025 on bars.

This was the Cyclones’ best performance this year on vault to date. Five different Cyclones posted season-highs, resulting in the team’s season-high score of 48.750. Caitlin Brown also put up Iowa State’s best individual score of the season on vault with a 9.800. Alex Marasco, Megan McDonald and Milan Ivory all posted scores of 9.750.

Balance Beam
Alex Marasco and Caitlin Brown were the story on beam for Iowa State, as both posted scores of 9.850. Marasco’s score was a career-best effort for the sophomore. Santerre and Ivory also posted scores of 9.825. The Cyclones were solid all the way around in their third rotation, with every gymnast scoring 9.775 or higher. It was Iowa State’s best effort of the season on beam, with a 49.125.

Floor Exercise
Senior Henrietta Green tied a career-high with a 9.875 in the floor exercise to lead the way in the final rotation. Hailey Johnson (9.800), Ivory (9.825) and Brown (9.850) were the other Cyclones to hit the 9.8 mark. Iowa State posted a team score of 49.125 on floor.

Up Next
The Cyclones will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 16 as they travel to DeKalb, Ill. for a tri-meet with Northern Illinois and Texas Women’s University.
