Cyclones Third at General Hackler Invite
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Iowa State men’s golf team finished strong today at the General Hackler Championship, finishing third behind a final-round 293. ISU’s 54-hole total of 890 (296-301-293=890) was just six shots off the winning tally of Middle Tennessee St. (884).
Kent State’s Corey Conners and Costal Carolina’s Andrew Dorn shared the medalist title. Each recorded a 54-hole mark of 216.
Junior All-American Scott Fernandez closed out the tournament with a 2-over 74. Fernandez’ three round total of 220 (72-74-74=220) put him in a tie for fifth in the medalist race.
It marks the 18th time in his career Fernandez has finished in the top-10, tying him for first all-time in the Iowa State record books with Jason Knutzon (1995-99) for career top-10 finishes. This is also the fourth top-10 showing on the season for Fernandez, a team best.
Freshman Ruben Sondjaja also picked up a top-10 for the Cyclones at the General Hackler Championship. He tied for eighth with a 54-hole total of 221 (70-77-74=221). This is the third time this season that he has finished in the top-10.
Sam Daley led Iowa State in scoring today, closing out the tournament with a 1-under par 71. His tournament total of 223 (77-75-71=223) placed him tied for 14th individually.
