Fanthorpe Named to NWCA All-Academic Team
MANHEIM, Pa. – Iowa State’s Nick Fanthorpe has been named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s All-Academic team for the 2009-10 season, it was announced. Fanthorpe, graduating in community and regional planning, was an NCAA All-American in 2008 and a four-time NCAA qualifier. This is the Cyclone's third selection to the team.
“The student-athletes on this All-Academic Team are a great example of the hard work and dedication that the sport of wrestling teaches these young men,” said NWCA President Jim Beichner.
Fanthorpe was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team honoree. The Naperville, Ill., native was equally impressive on the mat, recording a career record of 100-32.
To qualify for the All-Academic team, a wrestler must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, and either been an NCAA qualifier or won 60 percent of his total schedule – and must have competed in at least 60 percent of said schedule. The other way to qualify for the All-Academic team is to have a 3.0 GPA and been an NCAA All-American.
