COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior Iowa State wrestler Jon Reader won the 74-kg (163-pound) weight class Friday and Saturday at the 2010 University and FILA Junior World Team Trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

Some of the top collegiate talent in the nation competed for the right to wrestle on the nation's University and FILA Junior World teams. The FILA Junior World Championship is in Budapest, Hungary July 20-25, with the World University Championship being held Oct 24-30 in Torino, Italy.

Reader won his first three matches of the tournament to advance to the best-of-three final against Ohio State's Colt Sponseller. Reader took the first match 1-3, 2-2, 3-2 and then punched his ticket to Torino with a 3-0, 1-0 score in the second match.

Reader could be forced into a challenge situation for his team spot if a University-level competitor places in the top-three of the 74-kg class at the World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, June 10-12.

Former Cyclone heavyweight David Zabriskie reeled off three-straight victories after dropping his first match to finish third at 120 kg (264.5 pounds).

ISU's Nate Carr, Jr. also competed in the 74-kg weight class and notched a 2-2 record.

Cyclone sophomore Chris Spangler dominated four-straight opponents after faltering in his first match to finish third at 74 kg in FILA Junior competition. Spangler finished the tournament by scoring a  pin in 33 seconds over Iowa's Derek St. John.

Incoming Iowa State freshman Ryak Finch won his first two matches to set up a best-of-three final against NCAA 125-pound qualifier Steven Keith of Harvard. Finch took the first two matches 5-3, 2-1 and 6-0, 6-0 to qualify for the FILA Juniors World Championship.
