“It brings back memories of going to college, meeting new people and it is exciting to see the parents and students getting set for the start of school,” Rhoads said.
Rhoads went through several floors and talked with students as they worked to set up the rooms that will be their home through May. Dads and moms were hard at work, laying carpet and setting up lofts as their children got acclimated to their new surroundings. Fennelly and Rhoads were not the only Iowa Staters welcoming students new and old. Rhoads passed Iowa State President Dr. Gregory Geoffroy, who had just finished meeting with students.
Some students immediately recognized their visitors, while others expressed mild amusement that Rhoads or Fennelly would be going floor to floor and stop to welcome friends to campus.
“It’s really an exciting time with everyone coming in for the New Year,” Fennelly said. “It reminds me of when our sons moved into the dorms at Iowa State. The University does a great job of providing support for these students when they come to Iowa State.”
Many students and some parents told Rhoads that they had already purchased their football season tickets. The first game is a 7 p.m. kickoff Sept. 2 vs. Northern Illinois in Jack Trice Stadium.
