AMES, Iowa - Iowa State head men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg announced today the signing of four players to national letters of intent for the 2011-12 basketball season.

Elgin Cook (6-6, 205, Fr., Milwaukee, Wis.), an athletic wing who is one of the best players in Wisconsin, Tyrus McGee (6-2, 190, Jr., Stringtown, Okla.), one of the best junior college guards in the country, Anthony Odunsi (6-3, 200, Fr., Ft. Bend, Texas), a versatile guard and one of the best players in the Houston area, and Tavon Sledge (5-9, 175, Spring Valley, N.Y.), an electric play-making guard who is one of the best preps out of the New York area, will enroll at Iowa State in the Fall of 2011.

Elgin Cook

An emerging star in the Class of 2011, Cook earned first-team all-state honors as a junior in extremely athletic wing who has outstanding leaping ability... ranked in the top-150 in Hoop Scoop...averaged 15.8 points and 7.5 rebounds to lead his team to a state appearance, a conference title and a 20-4 mark as a junior (2009-10)...named City Conference Player of the Year, first-team all-city and first-team all-area...Wisconsin Sports Network (WSN) lists him as the best player in Wisconsin in the class of 2011...earned fourth-team all-state honors in Wisconsin as a sophomore in 2008-09...was one of four sophomores to start on Hamilton's 19-4 team...averaged 13.6 points and 5.2 rebounds as a sophomore...averaged 7.2 points as a freshman for Milwaukee Bay View...coached at Hamilton by Tom Diener, who was Diante Garrett's high school coach at Milwaukee Vincent...also received interest from Florida State, Colorado, Marquette, Oregon State and Providence.

Hoiberg on Cook:
"Elgin is an athletic forward who can really run the floor. He can play above the rim and finish plays with his athleticism. He has the ability to defend multiple positions. Athletic wings are a necessity in the Big 12, and we feel Elgin fits that mold."



Tyrus McGee
G, 6-2, 190, Jr.
Stringtown, Okla. (Stringtown/Cowley C.C. {Kan.})
Considered one of the best junior college guards in the class of 2011, the sharpshooting guard ended his freshman season at Cowley College (Kan.) as a First-Team All-Region VI pick...averaged 16.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and made a team-high 80 3-pointers...was also named the Jayhawk East Freshman of the Year in 2010...shot 50 percent from the field and 44.1 percent from beyond the his last nine games of the season, McGee averaged 22.1 points and shot 57.0 percent from 3-point range (34-of-60) finished the season at 21-11 and won the Jayhawk Eastern Division Conference title with a 14-4 league mark...was one of the top prep scorers in the nation as a senior in 2009, averaging 36.1 points per game for Stringtown H.S...earned first-team Class B all-state honors and played in the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association (OBCA) All-Star game...also averaged 8.1 assists as a senior...averaged 34.0 points as a junior to earn first-team all-state made the state tournament all four seasons and won the Class B state championship in 2006 and 2007...averaged 16.1 points on the 2007 state championship squad.

"My staff and I feel Tyrus is one of the best junior college players in the country. He is a winner, a leader and adds immediate experience to our backcourt. Tyrus is an outstanding scorer and shooter who can knock down the big shot when his team needs it most."


Anthony Odunsi
G, 6-3, 200, Fr.
Ft. Bend, Texas (Travis)
A three-year starter who is one of the best guards in Texas...was named first-team all-Region and all-District in 2010 as a junior...averaged 16.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 2010...ranked as the sixth-best player in the Houston area according to as the 154th-best player nationally by HoopsUSA...named second-team all-District as a junior and was voted district newcomer of the year as a freshman.

Hoiberg on Odunsi:
"Anthony was one of the first commitments we got and we really like his versatility and play-making ability. Anthony has excellent court vision and is a type of player who makes his teammates better. His size and strength will allow him to compete in the Big 12 immediately."



Tavon Sledge
G, 5-9, 175, Fr.
Spring Valley, N.Y. (Half Hollow Hills West)
One of the best players from the New York area, Sledge is a jet-quick point guard who is a dangerous playmaker in the open floor...ranked as the fourth-best player out of New York City...played two seasons at St. Benedict's High School before transferring to Half Hollow Hills West (Dix Hills, N.Y.) for his junior and senior his first year at Hills West, led his team to the New York state finals (runner-up in Class AA)...current Tennessee freshman Tobias Harris was his teammate in 2009-10...averaged 18.3 points and 11.1 assists as a junior, earning all-state, all-Long Island and all-conference honors...was named the team's co-MVP along with Harris...named to the all-tournament team at the 2010 Big Apple Basketball Invitational...chose Iowa State over West Virginia, St. John's, Cincinnati, Seton Hall and Rutgers.

Hoiberg on Sledge:
"Tavon is one of the fastest players I have ever seen with the ball. He is lightning-quick and an exciting athlete to watch. Tavon will be a guy who can force the tempo with his speed. His attacking, aggressive mentality will make him a fan favorite at Hilton Coliseum."
