Espinosa Inks Washington Prep on Signing Day
AMES, Iowa - Iowa State head coach Armando Espinosa announced Wednesday that prep Meghan Cassens has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Cyclones starting in 2011-12.
Cassens, a native of Tacoma, Wash., garnered the top ranking in the state and No. 78 overall from Tennisrecruiting.net, making her the highest ranked player ever signed by Iowa State.
"We are very excited to sign Meghan," Espinosa said. "She possesses an amazing amount of talent and we can't wait to see what she brings to the table."
Cassens won state titles for Decatur High School as a sophomore and junior after finishing runner up as a freshman. The loss in the state championship as a freshman represents the only defeat of her high school career heading into her final season.
"Meghan is a very versatile player, she has the ability to adapt to her opponent's game and decipher the strategy in order to win," Espinosa said. "She is going to be a tremendous addition in doubles. Her shot variety and court savvy will help our doubles to reach new heights."
Cassens has been ranked in the top-3 of her section since she was 11 years old and her highest national ranking by the USTA was No. 35.
