AMES, Iowa - Former Iowa State All-American Mike Stensrud knows a personal friend in Lake Mills, Iowa with Neurofibromatosis (NF). NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow along nerves and can occur anywhere on or in the body.
"I visit him at least every other day to check in on him," Stensrud said.
Stensrud will participate in the third annual Iowa NF Walk Saturday to benefit the Children's Tumor Foundation. Participants will walk on the beautiful Racoon River Park's 3.2 mile path.
"They have raised more than $14,000," Stensrud said. "Because I have a personal experience with NF, I know the struggles of people's personal battles with the disease."
The group walk begins at 10 a.m.
