AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team will travel to Houston, Texas this weekend to compete in the Cougar Fall Draw. The tournament will be held on the University of Houston campus with 13 teams competing in singles and doubles action throughout the three-day tournament.
Iowa State will send four Cyclones to represent the program at the tournament. Ksenia Pronina, Simona Cacciuttolo and Meghan Cassens will be making return appearances in Houston where they competed last year.
Transfer sophomore Claudia Ortiz will be competing as a Cyclone for the first time this weekend.
Head coach Armando Espinosa hopes to use the weekend as a gauge for future tournaments.
"Claudia is coming out of an injury so we want to see what she is able to do," Espinosa said. "Everyone else has played so we want to see where she is heading into a more team-oriented tournament at Western Michigan next weekend."
The Cyclones could face student-athletes from Rice, Houston, Liberty, Denver, Texas State, North Texas, TCU, Lamar, Idaho, Oregon, Auburn and Arkansas. Matches will start Friday and will continue through Sunday.
