HOUSTON, Texas - Iowa State's Meghan Cassens and Ksenia Pronina advanced to the finals of their bracket in a rain shortened day at the Cougar Fall Draw Saturday.
Cassens advanced with a straight-set win over Alicia Porte of Lamar, 7-6 (6), 6-1. In the finals, Cassens will be matched against Emma Isberg of Denver.
Pronina advances to her finals due to a withdrawal from her opponent. The sophomore will face Emily Flickinger from Auburn.
Simona Cacciuttolo was defeated in a competitive match versus Jessica Kahts. Kahts, of Texas State, won in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 10-4. Cacciuttolo will play in the consolation final against Sophia Bergner of Denver.
Claudia Ortiz's match was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Iowa State doubles teams each completed their matches before the weather became a factor. Cacciuttolo and Pronina defeated Sophia Bergner and Mandy Van Der Eerenbeernt of Denver, 8-3. Cassens and Ortiz lost in heartbreaking fashion, 9-8 (4), to their opponents Emelia Box and Victoria Parshikova of North Texas.
The remaining matches will be resumed Sunday morning with the final matches following.
