HOUSTON, Texas - Weather was a factor again today as the Iowa State tennis team took the court on the final day of the Cougar Fall Draw. Only singles play was held today.
The Cyclones had a pair of sophomores in the finals as Meghan Cassens and Ksenia Pronina advanced to the championship match after posting wins on the tournament's first two days.
Cassens fell in straight sets in her finals match against Emma Isberg of Denver, 6-1, 6-3, and Pronina was defeated by Arizona State's Emily Flickinger, 6-4, 6-4.
Claudia Ortiz completed her match that was delayed Saturday against Rebekah Jenkins of Liberty. Ortiz dropped the match 6-2, 6-3. The next opponent she faced was Leah Fried of Rice. Fried took the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Simona Cacciuttolo's match against Sophia Bergner of Denver was competitive before being called due to travel. The match was ended with Bergner up a set and the pair tied in the second.
The Cyclones will be back in action next weekend at the Western Michigan Fall Invitational. It will be the final tournament of the fall for the team.
