Cyclones Continue Action At Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Iowa State tennis team wrapped up the second day of the Western Michigan Super Challenge. Singles and doubles play was played today.

Simona Cacciuttolo was paired against Chelsea Utting of Penn State in the consolation semifinal taking the match in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8). Cacciuttolo will face off against Nikki Chiricosta of Bowling Green in the consolation finals.

Claudia Ortiz played in a semifinal match today. Ortiz lost in a competitive match against Ali Dawson of Marquette, 6-2, 6-3. Ortiz will take on Gabrielle Rubenstein of Indiana in the third-place match.

Ellie Nixon and Claudia Ortiz paired up in a win for the Cyclones. Nixon and Ortiz beat Petruzillo and Rivers of Penn State convincingly with a 8-2 victory.

Meghan Cassens and Caroline Hauge Andersen won an additional doubles match on the evening as well. Cassens and Andersen beat Mountford and Manningham of Notre Dame, 8-2.

The Western Michigan Super Challenge will wrap up on Sunday.
