AMES, Iowa – Iowa State libero Kristen Hahn is the Big 12 Libero of the Week for the third-consecutive week and the seventh time this season, tying a Big 12 volleyball record for weekly awards in a single season.
Hahn owns the league record for consecutive awards with four, set earlier this season, and is second all-time in Big 12 history with 11 defensive awards, behind former Cyclone Ashley Mass who was honored 15 times in her four year career at Iowa State.
Following a bye last Wednesday, Hahn and the Cyclones returned to the court at Oklahoma, where the junior out of Cedar Rapids collected 23 digs in the straight-sets win, an average of 7.67 digs per set. Hahn has averaged better than 6.00 digs per set in 10 matches this season and has 12 matches of 20 digs, one shy of Mass’ single-season record 13, set in 2010. Against the Sooners, Hahn also served two aces and raising her average to 0.30 aces per set this season, sixth-best in the league.
Hahn’s lead in the Big 12 digs standings has lengthened to 0.76 digs per set more than the second-place libero. Her average of 5.60 digs per set against Big 12 teams has led the league all season , and, as a direct result of Hahn’s play, Iowa State has grown its own digs average back to 17.47 digs per set, again the largest average amongst Big 12 teams this season by 0.67 digs per set.
Yvonne Igodan (TCU) and Julia Doyle (Oklahoma) were named the Big 12’s top offensive and rookie performers, respectively.
On Wednesday, Iowa State (16-7, 9-3 Big 12) will face Kansas State (21-5, 8-5 Big 12) in a top-25 showdown on ESPNU. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. CDT.
