AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State divers will head to Iowa City to compete at the Hawkeye Invitational this Friday Nov. 30 through Sunday Dec. 2 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Pool. The meet will be championship style format.
“We have been talking about how this meet is different being a three-day meet instead of a dual meet so we can focus on one event per day,” diving coach Jeff Warrick said. “We haven’t changed our game plan a whole lot; we have continued our mental training as well as what we have normally been doing in the pool. It’s going to be a lot bigger meet with more divers, so it will be a different speed of meet and we have been working on preparing for that.”
This weekend’s invitational will feature many teams that the Cyclone divers do not see during their regular season including Denver, Michigan, Wisconsin- Milwaukee, Northwestern and Notre Dame. The team will also see familiar competition in Nebraska, Northern Iowa and host Iowa.
“It’s an interesting meet because we are going to see a lot of divers that we never really see,” Warrick said. “There are some Big Ten teams that we have never gotten to compete against in the past, but then there is Nebraska who we see all the time. It’s going to be a very competitive meet for sure. With Notre Dame, Michigan, obviously Iowa, it’s going to be a very tough meet, but I think Elyse Brouillette has a very good chance of performing well, as well as the rest of our divers.”
The Cyclone divers last saw action in a double dual meet against Nebraska and the University of South Dakota on Friday Oct. 26 where Brouillette lead the Cyclones on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. She has also qualified for the NCAA Zone meet in Houston, Texas on both boards.
Diving prelims will begin Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m. CST with finals following in the evening at 6 p.m. CST. Sunday will feature platform diving beginning at noon.
