No. 17 Oklahoma State Beats No. 24 Iowa State
STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 24 Iowa State women's basketball team (13-3 overall, 4-2 Big 12) had fought back to trail No. 17 Oklahoma State (14-2 overall, 3-2 Big 12) 31-21 at halftime. But the Cowgirls ran off the first 20 points of the second half en route to a 71-42 win over the Cyclones Saturday in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Liz Donohoe led five OSU players in double figures with 18 points. Hallie Christofferson led Iowa State with 10 points.
Oklahoma State found its mark from the field, shooting .500 (27-54) as Iowa State shot just .308 (16-52) from the field and could hit only five of 24 (.208) three-point attempts. When Brittney Martin hit a pair of free throws with 13:38 left in the game, OSU led 51-21. A pair of free throws by Chelsea Poppens preceded a bucket by Anna Prins with 11:54 left in the contest, the first field goal by the Cyclones in the second half. The Cowgirls outscored the Cyclones, 24-2 off turnovers in the game.
Iowa State started the first half well and Oklahoma State finished it strong. The Cyclones made four of their first five shots and when Hallie Christofferson completed a three-point play with a free throw, Iowa State led 10-4 with 15:43 to go. But Oklahoma State got physical and started making baskets. After their hot start, the Cyclones made just four of 20 shots for the balance of the half. When Tiffany Bias hit a jumper with 35 seconds left in the first stanza, the Cowgirls had 31-18 advantage.
