AMES, Iowa - Iowa State wrestler Kyven Gadson was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. Gadson received the honor after wins over two top-10 nationally ranked opponents over the weekend.

Gadson pulled upsets over Arizona State's No. 7 Jake Meredith and Oklahoma State's No. 6 Blake Rosholt. He is now ranked No. 7 nationally at 197 pounds in the latest InterMat poll, released on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

The redshirt sophomore started out the weekend helping the Cyclones to a 23-18 win over the Sun Devils, picking up a statement win in a 9-1 major decision over the highly-touted Meredith.

On Sunday in the dual with No. 2 Oklahoma State, Gadson defeated the No. 6 Rosholt, 3-1 with a crucial takedown with 8 seconds remaining in the match.

Gadson is currently on a seven-match win streak that dates back to a fourth place finish at the 50th Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill. During the streak, Gadson has defeated three top-10 opponents. He is 7-2 vs. ranked opponents on the season.

It is the third weekly award for the Waterloo, Iowa native, who moved to 16-2 on the year with a 9-0 record in dual competition.
