Saina Named Big 12 Track Athlete of the Week

AMES, Iowa- Two-time NCAA champion Betsy Saina of Iowa State has been selected as the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for competition Feb. 8-10. It is the first track award for Saina, who won both the Big 12 and NCAA Cross Country Championships in the fall.

Saina smashed the 5,000-meter run school record with a time of 15:21.66. In doing so, the 2012 NCAA cross country champion eclipsed the world's fastest time in that event in 2013 by more than 22 seconds. Saina's time is the fifth-fastest ever run by a collegiate woman indoors.
