No. 6 Kansas Rallies Past ISU In OT

AMES, Iowa - Elijah Johnson scored a career-high 39 points to help No. 6 Kansas (24-4, 12-3 Big 12) to a 108-96 victory over Iowa State (19-9, 9-6 Big 12) Monday night in Hilton Coliseum.

Johnson got hot late for the Jayhawks, burying two deep 3-pointers and scoring 10 points in the final minute of regulation. He then added five quick points in the overtime period to help the Jayhawks prevail.

The Cyclones tallied a school-record 17 3-pointers in the game, but the Jayhawks came up with the big plays late to end ISU's homecourt winning streak at 22 games.

Korie Lucious scored a career-high 23 points and Tyrus McGee tied his career high with 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting from 3-point range.

Both teams traded several leads in the first half, as KU went into the break with a 41-40 lead. ISU jumped out early, taking a 14-7 lead after Lucious and Georges Niang hit back-to-back 3-pointers.

KU then went on a 14-3 run to move ahead, 21-17 with 12:09 left before the break after Naadir Tharpe buried a trey. ISU then answered with five-straight points, retaking the lead at 22-21 after an Anthony Booker 3-pointer.

ISU again led by four points late in the first half, but KU ended the break on a 9-4 run to take a 41-40 lead at intermission.

KU maintained its lead in the early moments of the second half until McGee buried back-to-back treys to put ISU on top, 64-60 with 12:37 left in the game.

ISU appeared to have the game in good shape after Niang hit a 3-pointer to make the Cyclones an 87-82 lead with 0:45 seconds remaining. However, Johnson hit two deep treys and a pair of free-throws in the final minute to make it 90-90 after regulation.

ISU travels to Oklahoma on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 12:45 p.m. CT.
