Goldstein Helps USA To Gold At Maccabiah Games

AMES, Iowa – Emily Goldstein and the USA women’s soccer team ended the 2013 Maccabiah Games with a 6-1 victory over the host country, Israel, in the championship match of the open division to claim gold.

Goldstein, a senior midfielder for the Iowa State women’s soccer team, was second among all scorers in the tournament with eight goals, helping the USA squad to a 5-0-1 record. In their six matches, Goldstein and company outscored opponents by a combined tally of 40-2 in their dominant run.

The Maccabiah Games are an Olympic-style competition held once every four years in Israel and are open to all Jewish athletes, as well as Israeli athletes regardless of religion.

Goldstein, an Orange County, Calif., native, is a two-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the Cyclones. The senior midfielder was also third on the team in both goals scored (four) and points (nine) during the 2012-13 season.
