AMES, Iowa- The Cyclones (2-0) will take on the Western Illinois Leathernecks (1-0) Tuesday at 8 p.m. for the home opener at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

The first 100 fans to enter the gates will receive a free T-shirt and the first 50 students will receive free pizza. Admission is free to all fans. The game will also feature the first Dorm Wars game of the season. Whichever dorm floor has the most students total attend the game will win a pizza party for their floor at the end of the season.

Last time out

The Cyclones started the season out 2-0 with wins over South Dakota State and South Dakota.  Against the Jackrabbits the Cyclones were led by freshman Koree Willer and Lauren Roeling. The freshman duo each scored goals for the Cyclones en route to a 2-1 victory. Senior leadership took over against South Dakota as Erin Green, Emily Goldstein and Jennifer Dominguez each scored goals and the Cyclones defeated the Coyotes 3-1.

Scouting the Leathernecks

Western Illinois started the season 1-0 after a double overtime game against Northwestern (2-1). The Leathernecks are led by senior goalkeeper Laura Atkinson. Last season she was named 2012 Summit League ‘Goalkeeper of the Year’ and holds program records for save percentage, goals against average, wins and shutouts.

What to watch for

The key matchup of the game will be Iowa State’s senior led forwards against the defense of Western Illinois. Jennifer Dominguez, who led the Big 12 in goals per game last season, already has one goal this year and is hungry for more. Fellow senior Emily Goldstein scored for the Cyclones on a penalty kick against South Dakota and adds an extra punch to the Iowa State attack. The Leathernecks goalkeeper holds a handful of program records for save percentage, goals against average, wins and shutouts and will look to slow down a fierce Iowa State offensive attack.

The game will mark the first for the Cyclone Sports Complex this season. Fans can watch the game live on Cyclones.tv. Results will be available on Cyclones.com after the conclusion of the game.
