Cyclone Notebook
- Iowa State (4-0, 0-0) looks to improve to 5-0 for the second time under Fred Hoiberg and fourth time in the last 10 years when it hosts Kansas City Monday evening at Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones are 3-0 at home this season and have won 35 of the last 38, including 16 straight vs. nonconference foes.
- The Cyclones are ranked No. 21 in The Associated Press poll. It is the first national ranking for the program since being ranked heading into the 2011-12 Big 12 Championship. It is the highest ranking for the Cyclones since the 2000-01 season.
- Iowa State, which is 2-0 all-time against UMKC, is averaging 85.5 points per game following a 90-88 win at BYU Wednesday night. Melvin Ejim and DeAndre Kane each scored 21 points in the win, while Georges Niang tied a career-high with 19 points.
- Ejim, a preseason All-Big 12 selection, returned to the lineup vs. Michigan after missing two games (hyperextended knee). Ejim, who earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors after the Michigan game, is averaging 21.5 points and 6.5 rebounds. He has scored at least 20 points in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. The last Cyclone to score 20 points in three straight games was Craig Brackins in 2008-09 when he tallied 20+ in the final four games of the season.
- The Cyclones have won both Big 12 Player of the Week honors this season with Ejim winning this week and Naz Long taking the season’s first award after an 8-of-11 performance from behind the arc against UNCW. Kane was newcomer of the week after ISU’s first game.
- Iowa State’s offensive attack has been very balanced this season. The Cyclones have had at least four players score in double figures in every game this season. In the first three games of the season, five players were in double figures.
- Iowa State has shot at least 50 percent from the field in three of four games and currently ranks third in the Big 12 shooting 51 percent. In contrast, ISU is holding opponents to just 36.4 percent from the field, which ranks second in the league.
- Kane continues to fill the stat sheet for the Cyclones, averaging 15.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists. No other player in the Big 12 is averaging at least 15-6-5. Kane ranks in the top-10 in points, rebounds and assists.

Series Notes vs. UMKC
- Iowa State and UMKC meet for the third time in school history and second time in as many years. The Cyclones have won both the previous meetings, including a 76-61 win last season in Kansas City.
- Tyrus McGee scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half to lead the Cyclones, who trailed by four in the second stanza.
- In a 1979 meeting between ISU and UMKC, the Cyclones scored 121 points, which still ranks as the fifth-best single-game total in school history.
UMKC has joined the WAC this season. ISU is 10-2 against teams currently in the WAC.
