Cyclone Notebook
- ISU (16-4, 4-4) heads to Stillwater, Okla. to face No. 8 Oklahoma State (16-5, 4-4) in another key Big 12 matchup on ESPN’s Big Monday. ISU has five wins vs. ranked opponents this season, which ties for the second most in school history (7, 1999-00).
- Iowa State is in the middle of a grueling stretch that features four-straight games against nationally ranked opponents. The Cyclones are facing four ranked programs in a row for just the fifth time in school history (57-58, 94-95, 02-03, 10-11, 13-14).
- Iowa State is one of just two schools nationally with three players averaging at least 16 ppg (VMI). The Cyclones have had five different players tally 20+ points in a game this season. ISU is the only school in the nation to score 70+ points in every game.
- Melvin Ejim is the Big 12’s top scorer at 18.1 points per game. The last Cyclone to lead the conference in scoring was Marcus Fizer (1999, 2000). The senior has posted six double-doubles and against Oklahoma became just the 11th player in Big 12 history to grab 900 career rebounds.
- Ejim and Creighton’s Doug McDermott are the only players in one of the power conferences to average at least 18 pts, seven rebounds while also shooting at least 50 percent from the field and 35 percent behind the arc.
- DeAndre Kane, who is on the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25, is ninth in the Big 12 in scoring, second in assists and steals and 12th in rebounding. He has scored 20+ in four of the last seven games.
- Georges Niang has been the Cyclones’ hottest player over the last four contests. Niang scored a career-high 27 points vs. OU and is averaging 21.8 points in the last four games (56.9 FG%, 51.9 3FG%).
- Iowa State is leading the Big 12 in scoring at 84.4 points per game. The Cyclones share and protect the ball as well as anyone in the country, dishing out 18.2 assists (1st in Big 12, 2nd in nation) and posting a 1.73 assist/turnover ratio (1st in Big 12, 3rd in nation).
- Freshman Monté Morris made his first career start vs. Oklahoma, finishing with 12 points in 35 minutes of action. Morris led the Cyclones in minutes played against the Sooners and has a 5.3 assist/turnover ratio in conference play.
- Matt Thomas has hit 9-of-17 three-pointers in the last three games.
