Behind The Scenes With DeAndre Kane
Editor's Note: DeAndre Kane is a senior on the Iowa State men's basketball team working toward earning his Master's Degree in Higher Education. As part of his Higher Ed 591 course, Kane will be doing a weekly blog to give fans an inside look at his life as a student-athlete. The course is of the field experience variety and he'll be focusing on the role of media communications in higher education and athletics.
My name is Deandre Kane and I want to give you an inside peek about my journey as a Division I basketball player at Iowa State over the next few weeks. I'm currently a graduate student in the Higher Ed program. I transferred from Marshall University where I played three years of basketball and received a degree in business management. After my last year of basketball I wanted to go to another university that has a successful program and great fans and support. So I visited Iowa State and the moment I stepped foot on campus I loved it. What really played a major factor in my decision to commit here at Iowa State was Coach Fred and the job he has done with transfers and his style of play which is an up tempo type of style that I like playing. I wanted to play for Coach Hoiberg because he is one of the nicest coaches you can ever ask for and I wanted to be a part of something special. The other major factor was the fans. Playing in front of thousands of people every night is the best feeling because many college basketball players don't get to play in that type of environment every game. Look forward to next week's blog where I talk about how I balance athletics and academics in the middle of the season. Go Cyclones!
