AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men’s and women’s track and field teams are preparing to compete in this weekend’s Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will be hosted at the Cyclones’ home Harry Hoak Track in the Lied Recreation Athletic Center.

Iowa State boasts three athletes ranked in the nation’s top-25 in Edward Kemboi (1st, 800m), Christina Hillman (1st, shot put) and Ejiro Okoro (3rd, 800m).

Kemboi posted the nation’s fastest time in the 800-meter run at the Iowa State Classic, breaking the tape and his own Iowa State program record in 1:45.98. The two-time All-American finished first in a field that featured three of the nation’s top-10 runners. Kemboi’s mark is a personal best and currently ranks seventh in the world this year. The Eldoret, Kenya, native is an integral part of the men’s distance medley relay team, which is currently ranked third in the conference behind Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.

Hillman is coming off a sixth-place finish at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships, where she threw the shot 57 feet 1.50 inches. In five competitions this season, the two-time All-American has finished first four times. Hillman has a personal best of 58’0.50” in the event and has thrown over four feet farther than her closest in-conference competitor. The Dover, Del., native is currently ranked No. 21 in the nation this season, with a best mark of 57’5.5”.

Okoro posted a career-best and program record in the 800m at the ISU Classic, crossing the line in 2:03.91. The mark is good for third in the nation this season and tops in the conference, just ahead of a trio of runners from Oklahoma State. The Birmingham, England, native is also a member of the record-setting DMR squad. The team set the mark at 11:11.93 at the Armory Collegiate Invitational, which is good for the fastest time in the conference this season, over two seconds ahead of second ranked Kansas (11:14.63).

The squad also features program record holder Kendra White. White set the ISU 400m-dash mark at 54.11 seconds earlier this season at the Bill Bergan Invitational. White has competed in the DMR and is a stronghold on the 4x400m relay squad.

Keep an eye on men's shot putter Jan Jeuschede. Currently sixth in the Big 12 with a mark of 60'3" this seaon, Jeuschede has won three out of four competitions this season and is looking to score big points for the Cyclones this weekend.

The Cyclones are rewriting the program record books this season, as a total of 17 individuals/teams (10 women, 7 men) have earned places on the all-time top-10 indoor lists.

Action is slated to begin Friday, Feb. 28, at 10:00 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles portion of the women’s pentathlon. Individual running and field events are scheduled to kick off at 3:00 p.m. CT. Live results will be provided by the Delta Timing Group and a live stream of the event will be broadcast on See below table for ticket pricing.

Be sure to follow the meet on social media. The Cyclones' twitter account, @CycloneTrackXC, will be tweeting out Iowa State results and milestones as they happen at the Big 12 Championships. The official hashtag for the event is #Big12TF.
