Nine Cyclone Gymnasts Named Academic All-Big 12
AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State gymnastics team had nine gymnasts make the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 Team, including five first team honorees. The nine representatives from Iowa State is tied with Oklahoma for the most from any institution.
Seniors Henrietta Green (Kinesiology - Exercise Science) and Michelle Shealy (Elementary Education) also have the distinction of being the only three-time first team honorees in the Big 12 this year (2012-14). The duo was named to the first team all three years they were eligible, as freshmen and transfers are cannot earn academic honors during their first year on campus.
Joining Green and Shealy on the first team were fellow Cyclones Caitlin Brown (Marketing), Kristen DeCosta (Marketing) and Hailey Johnson (Child, Adult and Family Services). To earn first team honorees, student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher.
Four more gymnasts in seniors Camille Santerre-Gervais (Animal Science) and Megan McDonald (Journalism), as well as sophomores Alex Marasco (Pre Business) and Sara Townsend (Chemical Engineering) were recognized for their outstanding academic success by being named to the second team. To earn second team honors, student athletes must maitain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The Cyclones will be back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT in Morgantown, W. Va. for the Big 12 Championships.
