Jim Doran, one of the greatest receivers in Big Seven history, came into his own as an Iowa State junior, earning all-conference honors with 689 yards on 34 catches. He broke the single-season Big Seven receiving mark by over 200 yards. Doran matched his stand-out junior season with 652 yards on 42 receptions and six touchdowns as a senior, earning him first-team All-America honors and invitations to play in the 1951 Hula and East-West Shrine Bowls. Doran closed out his Cyclone career owning virtually every Iowa State and Big Seven receiving mark. The Cyclone standout continued his success when he reached the NFL, playing a total of 11 years with the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys.
