Ron Galimore was honored as Iowa State’s Athlete of the Year in 1981. The Cyclone gymnast won two individual NCAA titles on the vault, leading the team to a second-place finish in 1981. Galimore was honored as an All-American nine times, placing in the all-around, vault and floor exercise twice at the NCAA Championship. The pinnacle of his Cyclone career was vaulting to the first perfect 10 in NCAA meet history to claim the 1981 national vault crown. Galimore was selected as a member to the 1980 Olympic gymnastics team, the first black athlete to be named to the team.
