Diane and Debbie Vetter were born just two minutes apart and will always be remembered as the Vetter twins to Cyclone fans. The Vetters were major cogs in the Cyclones’ cross country and track juggernaut throughout the late 1970s and 1980s when ISU captured three AIAW national cross country titles and conference crowns in both track and cross country.

Debbie Vetter was honored as Iowa State’s 1981 Female Athlete of the year. In addition to running on three national champion teams, Debbie twice won the Big Eight and AIAW Region VI individual cross country crowns. Debbie also earned All-America honors 10 times.

Debbie set ISU and Big Eight Conference marks in the 1,500- and 800-meter events in all, Debbie collected nine Big Eight titles, including five outdoor track, three indoor track, and one cross country crown.
