AMES, Iowa – Iowa State cross country kicks off the 2013 schedule tonight at the Bulldog 4K Classic hosted by Drake University at Ewing Park. Tonight’s races will be the first under the leadership of head coaches Martin Smith and Andrea-Grove McDonough.

The Cyclone women are two-time defending Big 12 champions, three-time defending Midwest Regional champions and are coming off an 11th place finish at the 2012 NCAA Championships. The women start the year ranked third in the Midwest and 26th nationally.

On the men’s side, the Cyclones notched two top-5 finishes last season, running to second at the Roy Griak Invitational and fifth at the Big 12 Championships. The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) ranked the men eighth in the Midwest.

Due to intense heat, the race times have been changed. The women’s race is set to start at 6:15 p.m. CT, and the gun will fire at 6:45 p.m. for the men.
