Stack, Loy Named Big 12 Runners of the Week
IRVING, Texas - Iowa State seniors Dani Stack and Rico Loy have been named Big 12 Runners of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. This is the first time either student-athlete has earned this honor and just the second time Iowa State has swept the weekly honors. Both led the Cyclones at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday in Minnesota.
Stack was the first Cyclone finisher in the 6,000-meter race Saturday on the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn., where she finished eighth overall, leading the women to their first team title at the Roy Griak Invitational since 2009. Stack posted a sub-21 minute time on the 6K course, finishing in 20:56.90. The Cyclone women tied for first-place in the team points race with California. After a tie-breaker, Iowa State was named the outright champions of the women's competition.
Loy was also the first Cyclone finisher and led the men's team on the 8,000-meter course. He finished the 13th overall with a time of 24:29.90. The Iowa State men finished sixth in the team competition at the Roy Griak Invitational, one spot higher than their team finish at the 2010 meet.
