Five Cyclones Earn All-Region Honors
NEW ORLEANS - Iowa State had five student-athletes earn All-Region honors for their performances at the NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country meet Nov. 12 in DeKalb, Ill. The honors were awarded to those who finished int he top-25 of their respective regional championship races.
Rico Loy was the only member of the Iowa State men's cross country team to earn All-Region honors, finishing 18th in the 10,000-meter race at the Midwest Regional. This is the first time Loy has earned this honor. He also earned All-Big 12 honors, finishing 12th at the conference meet Oct. 29 in College Station, Texas and was named the Big 12 Male Runner of the Week on Sep. 27 for his performance at the Roy Griak Invitational.
Four Cyclone women finished in the top-10 of the 6,000-meter Midwest Regional race, earning all of them All-Region honrs. Three-time All-American Betsy Saina was the race's runner-up for the second consecutive year, while teammate Meaghan Nelson finished fourth. All-American Dani Stack recorded a seventh-place finish with sophomore Morgan Casey clocking a 10th-place finish. This was the second time Saina earned All-Region honors. Stack, Nelson and Casey earned the recognition for the first time. Stack and Nelson have both earned Big 12 Female Runner of the Week honors this season and Nelson, Stack and Saina earned All-Big 12 honors for the top-15 finishes at this year's conference meet.
