19 Cross Country Runners are Academic All-Big 12

AMES, Iowa - All-American Meaghan Nelson, Charlie Paul and Nick Schulze lead the 19 Iowa State cross country runners named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 team, the league office announced Tuesday. Nelson (kinesiology and health), Paul (kinesiology and health) and Schulze (software engineering) all made the first team for the third consecutive season.

A total of 11 Iowa State women made the first team, including six Cyclones who made the premier team for the second season, Maddy Becker (political science), Morgan Casey (kinesiology and health), Maggie Gannon (chemical engineering), Katy Moen (elementary education), Bethany Olson (agricultural business) and Taylor Petersen (animal science).

Making their initial appearance on the women's first team are Emily Meese (kinesiology and health), Colleen Riley (kinesiology and health), Andrea Toppin (kinesiology and health) and Erin Valenti (kinesiology and health). Samantha Bluske (dietetics) made the second team.

Six Iowa State men made the first team, including repeat achiever Tyler Jermann (finance). Alexander Dillenbeck (kinesiology and health) made the first team this fall after making the second team last season. Cullen Wannarka (civil engineering) and Steven Dado (kinesiology and health) also made the first team.
Cyclone Abdoulave Seye made the second team in 2012 after making the first team in 2011. Alec Bollman (kinesiology and health) made the second team.
