DES MOINES, Iowa – Senior Ese Okoro took first in the 400-meter hurdles and set a personal best time of 57.43, Saturday at the Drake Relays.

Okoro, who placed second last season in the 400-meter hurdles at the Drake Relays, was excited to come on top this season.

“It went really well," Okoro said. "It gave me confidence going into the Big 12’s next weekend.  This was my stepping stone and it was nice to have a win outside. It was nice to see hard work pay off.”

Iowa State sprints coach Nate Wiens was happy to see Okoro take charge and earn first place in the race.

“It’s a race that we have been working on,” Wiens said. “She took the race from the beginning and held on.  It’s one of those races where she has a lot of confidence in knowing what she can do. It’s good to see her not holding back and really going for it. It was good to see her finish the race strong.”

The Iowa State DMR squad placed third with a time of 11:12.92.  With that time the girls recorded the second best DMR time in Cyclone history.

Members of the quartet included: Maggie Gannon, Kendra White, Ejiro Okoro and Dani Stack.

The women’s 4X100-meter shuttle hurdles squad finished in eighth with 1:00.04 in the prelims.

The Iowa State men’s team was led with a fourth place finish in the 110-meter shuttle hurdles relay prelims of 58.63.
