AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men’s and women’s cross country team head to Iowa City, Iowa, Friday to compete in the Iowa Black and Gold Invitational. The open-format meet permits teams to field more runners than the typical seven and will allow coaches to get a better picture of where student-athletes are in their progressions.

The invitational will feature talent from Alabama, Baylor (women) and Iowa. The Alabama men rank 13th in the South Region, receiving seven votes in the national poll. The Crimson Tide women are ranked sixth in the South. The Baylor women will enter the race sixth in the South-Central Region. Host school Iowa holds rankings in both the men’s and women’s regional polls. The Hawkeye men rank 11th regionally, and the women come in at No. 10 in the Midwest.

The Iowa Black and Gold Invitational will be held at the Ashton Cross Country Course. The women’s race will be held at 6:00 p.m. CT and the gun will fire at 6:45 p.m. for the men.
