Athens, Ohio – The Cyclones (6-3-1, 1-1 Big 12) picked up two wins this afternoon against Ohio and West Virginia in the Ohio University Aquatic Center. For the first time in the 17-year tenure under head swimming coach Duane Sorenson, Iowa State remained undefeated on the road in the 2013-14 season.

With today’s wins, the Cyclones are guaranteed a winning record on the season. Including this year’s squad, 11 out of the past 14 seasons have been .500 or better.

“I am very proud of the way our women have handled our road trips,” Sorenson said. “We have gotten up and raced really well away from our home pool.”

The Cyclones started the afternoon by claiming a win in the first event of the double dual. The Iowa State 400-yard medley relay team of Marissa Engel, Imelda Wistey, Savanna Townsend, and Amanda Paulson out-touched the field with a time of 3:49.09.

Iowa State went on to tally a total of nine wins – Paulson having a hand in four of them.

“We know that there are a few things that we need to work on,” Sorenson said, “but everyone just did the little things right and raced really well to perform the way we did.”

After a number of convincing performances, the Cyclone diving squad stumbled slightly on the boards today.

Senior diver Jessica Henderson bounced back from a failing dive in the 3-meter event to score 230.85. Elyse Brouillette battled through illness to post a pair of top five finishes on the 1 and 3-meter boards.

“We definitely have some things that we need to work on, things that we need to polish up,” Iowa State head diving coach Jeff Warrick said, “but the thing is, we are doing really well. As far as the divers go, I know we’re on track.”

The Cyclones return to Ames next Fri, Feb 7 at 6 p.m. to take on the Jayhawks of Kansas in the Beyer Hall Pool. Next weekend’s matchup will be senior day for Iowa State.
