Cyclones Set Career Marks At Terrier Invite
BOSTON – A pair of top-10 finishes in the 1000-meter run highlighted Iowa State’s showing at Boston University’s John Thomas Terrier Invitational, Saturday. Joe Gioielli (3rd) and Alec Baldwin (10th) crossed the line in 2:24.27 and 2:25.37, respectively.
The two Cyclones competed in a nine-heat, 81 competitor field that was filled with national talent from both the collegiate and professional levels. The third and 10th place finishes made Iowa State one of two teams (UMass-Lowell) to place two athletes inside the top-10. Baldwin’s 2:25.37 is good for a personal best in the event, while Gioielli’s time marks his fastest since running a 2:23.39 at the 2013 New England Championships.
176 athletes made up the field for a mile run that saw eight runners finish ahead of the previous NCAA season-best of 4:01.72. Cyclone junior Alex Dillenbeck was the eighth collegiate athlete to cross the line and finished 13th overall with a career mark of 4:03.96. Dillenbeck’s previous best in the event was 4:05.95.
In the 3000m, Brian Llamas ran amongst 103 athletes, finishing 16th overall in 8:13.31. Llamas was the 10th competitor from the college/university level to cross the line.
