Cyclones Entertain at Cardinal and Gold Scrimmage
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State fans got their first glimpse of the 2014 ISU volleyball team Saturday at Hilton Coliseum during the Cardinal and Gold Scrimmage. The Cardinal squad took the first three sets 25-16, 25-23 and 25-17 before Gold came back and took the fourth 25-22.
The Cardinal team’s offense was outstanding the entire way as Suzanne Horner guided the offense with a 48 assists-15 digs performance. The Cardinal team hit .378 for the match, with the fourth set being the lowest output at .333 and peaking in the third at .436. The Cardinal side also got a strong play from Caitlin Nolan as she recorded 21 digs and 10 assists.
2013 Big 12 All-Freshman Team selection Ciara Capezio was the leader of the Iowa State attack with a combined 20 kills at an over .300 hitting percentage on the day. Victoria Hurtt, a Preseason All-Big 12 Team selection, also impressed with 15 kills at an over .400 hitting percentage.
