AMES, Iowa – Iowa State returns to the track, Saturday, for the first time since the Holiday Preview, Dec. 6. Student-athletes are set to compete at two meets this weekend, with the teams competing at the Big 4 Duals in Iowa City, Iowa. A group of men’s distance runners are heading to State College, Pa. to compete at the Nittany Lion Challenge.

Big 4 Duals
The University of Iowa Recreation Center will be host to an in-state showcase, Saturday, as athletes from Iowa State, Drake, UNI and Iowa travel to Iowa City to compete at the Big 4 Duals. The quadrangular meet will feature the state’s best collegiate talent, as multiple 2013 All-Americans return to the track.

Field events are slated to start at 12:00 p.m. CT, beginning with the long jump, weight throw and pole vault. Running events will begin at 1:00 p.m. CT with the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles preliminary heats.

Nittany Lion Challenge
Iowa State will also be sending a group of student-athletes to compete at the fourth annual Nittany Lion Challenge, Saturday. The event will be held at Penn State’s Ashenfelter III Indoor Track. The men will be focusing on middle-distance events including the 600m, 800m and 1000m races.

Men’s distance coach Jeremy Sudbury is excited for his athletes to get back in the swing of competition.

“We’re going to open it up and let the guys stretch their legs after taking a break from cross country,” Sudbury said. “For a few of the guys, it will be their first season and first time competing for Iowa State. It will be an exciting weekend for these guys to get out there and get the indoor season rolling.”

Running events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. CT.
