Cyclones Head to Husker Inv. and Armory Collegiate
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men’s and women’s track and field teams return to the track this weekend at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. Women’s distance coach Andrea Grove-McDonough will also be taking a relay squad to compete in the distance medley relay at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.
Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational
The Cyclones are taking both men’s and women’s team s to compete at the Husker Invitational this weekend. Iowa State will be pitted against strong talent from Central Florida, Auburn, Illinois, Maryland, USC, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Iowa.
This marks the fourth weekend of competition for the Cyclones in a season that has seen 42 different student-athletes set personal records in their respective events. The team will look to continue that improvement this weekend in Lincoln, Neb.
Iowa State will begin competition tonight at 5 p.m. CT with the women's weight throw. Live results for the Husker Invitational will be available via the link to the right.
Armory Collegiate Invitational
The Iowa State distance medley relay team is headed east this weekend, competing at the Armory Collegiate invitational in New York in an attempt to post an NCAA-qualifying time in the event.
The race will feature several squads holding top-25 rankings in the event, including No. 5 Villanova, No. 12 Arkansas and No. 23 Kansas. Relay teams from Arizona, Columbia and Vanderbilt will also be competing in the women’s championship heat.
The race is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. CT, and Cyclone fans can watch the Cyclone women live via the meet’s live webcast and keep up with meet results (provided by Hy-Tek Timing) by clicking the links to the right.
Keep Your Eye On…
*Kendra White. White made her season debut last weekend in impressive fashion, setting the Iowa State 400m program record in 54.11
*The women’s DMR. The squad features twin All-Americans in Ese and Ejiro Okoro, who will be running the 400m and 800m legs, respectively. Bethanie Brown, 2013 cross country All-American, will be running the mile leg of the relay.
*Ryan Sander. Sander made his season debut at the Bergan Inv. and placed third overall in the 60m-hurdles.
*Christina Hillman. The two-time All-American is No. 1 in the nation in the shot put and has won all three competitions so far this season.
*Jan Jeuschede. The Rosrath, Germany, native set a personal record earlier this season in the shot put at the Big 4 Duals and will be a contender at the Big 12 Championships.
Last Time Out
Last weekend’s Bill Bergan Invitational saw strong performances across the board from the Cyclones. Ejiro Okoro and Kendra White highlighted the Cyclones’ showing with impressive outings in the 800-meter run and 400-meter dash, respectively. Okoro captured the 800m title in 2:05.78, which is good for the eighth-fastest time in the nation this season. White placed third in the 400m and broke the Iowa State program record, crossing the line in 54.11 seconds.
